Elvis Presley - Good Rockin' Tonight (1954 - 56)

Elvis Presley - Good Rockin' Tonight (1954 - 56)
Roots Rock 'n' Roll | MP3 128 kbps | 75.5 MB | 98:46

The content has been done in the form of a documentary. We can follow Elvis "evolution" from Elvis' first appearance on October 16, 1954 in front of a crowd of several hundred people to his final special appearance before over 10,000 people on December 16, 1956. This live radio show, which began airing in 1948, rivaled the Grand Ole Opry for appeal in its day. You get to hear what the audience heard ...The evolution of Elvis Presley from a nervous kid who wanted to be a country-western singer to the King of Rock and Roll. The story is told as a documentary by Frank Page, one of the original announcers for the Louisiana Hayride and the man who first introduced Elvis on their stage. He takes you backstage at the Hayride and on the road with Elvis. His recollections provide wonderful insight to Elvis' performances on this renowned radio show.

While the music Elvis performed on the "Louisiana Hayride" radio show remains as exciting as it did when he first unleashed it in 1954, the way in which this package was put together proves totally unnecessary. The docu-drama narration provided by original "Hayride" MC Frank Page could have easily been transferred to the liner notes. Instead you hear 15 minutes of narration before actually getting to these legendary performances, only to be interrupted on numerous occasions as the program proceeds. While the narration was meant to highlight the historical value of these sessions, it only achieves to undermine them. This could have been one disc of amazing early Elvis, some of the most engaging and historic live performances of his career; instead, Good Rockin Tonight never gets up to speed because of continuous interruptions. What a shame. ~ Al Campbell, All Music Guide

The narration is very interesting; it makes you feel as if you are present at these shows. But in light of what Al Campbell says above, I've separated the songs from the narration so that it's easy to listen to them without interruption. The music files are at 128 kbps, and the narrative files are at 64 kbps.

This album includes the first utterance of "Elvis has left the building".
